How to Grill Rockfish with a Gas Grill

When it comes to grilling rockfish on gas grill, is pretty easy and fast. You can just grill and cooked the fish off the grill in a matter of minutes. The only trickiest part is to get the fish cooked to perfection without burning anything.

In general, rockfish, striped bass or sea bass are common fish for an outdoor barbecue grill. Grilled fish is pretty tasty and juicy, which is perfect for couple’s dinner after work. This favorable dish also works well for family gathering and parties for your guests.

  • Rockfish whole or fillets
  • Light vegetable oil

Getting the Fish

You can buy fresh rockfish in either whole or fillets size.

But what’s the different?

Definitely fillets is going to be cooked much faster than a whole fish, however…

Fillets tends to fall apart easy. So you got to handle the fillet with extra care.

Preparing the Fish

If you have a fillet that is uneven or thick, do slice it in two or smaller pieces so that it can be cooked easily.Based on your taste bud liking, you can enjoy the freshness of the fish with mild seasoning or you prefer the flavory taste with the sauces.

Before grilling, you can brush some oil on your fillets and add some pepper, salt and paprika for a richness taste. Some of us like to squeeze some lemon on it to let the fish meat sip in some of the sourness.

Now if you are grilling a whole fish, you might consider stuffing herbs and a little salt to remove any fishy taste.

Preparing the Grill

If you are using a hinged wire grill basket to grill the fish, do make sure your grill are clean to prevent the fish from sticking.

Preheat your gas grill by turning it to high for about 10 minutes.

Start Grilling

Coat your grill basket with nonstick cooking spray or some oil and place your seasoned fish inside before putting at the grill.

If not, just place your fish directly on the burner.

You may now turn the heat to medium and close the lid, waiting for the fish to be cook. With fillets, you can tell it is ready to flip because the edges are flaky and opaque.

After 5 to 6 mins, flip the fish gently and leave it there until it is ready to be taken off the grill.
